Record Crowd Greets Sen. Isakson at Perry Luncheon

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson addresses more than 1400 business leaders from around the state at the annual Georgia Chamber Congressional luncheon.

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce hosted more than 1,400 business leaders at its 2008 Congressional Luncheon in Perry on Thursday, August 28, 2008. A reception sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company began at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.

Headlining the luncheon was U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, a former member of the Georgia senate, who also served in the U. S. House of Representatives.  A special introduction of Sen. Isakson was delivered by Sen. Saxby Chambliss.  When Isakson took the podium, he told the crowd about his involvement in the bipartisan coalition, known as the "Gang of 10," which recently unveiled an energy plan to lower gas prices, decrease our nation's dependence on foreign oil and strengthen America's economy.  He also asked the crowd to vote on Nov. 4.  "The most important thing I want to tell you today is to get out and vote in November, stated Isakson."  "It is your country at stake."

This was the fourth visit of the luncheon to Perry.  Because of its central location, in the middle part of the state and right off I-75, Perry is accessible from most parts of Georgia. As a result, there is almost no part of the state that is not represented at the luncheon.

For business and community leaders, the luncheon was instructive and revealing. There is little doubt Sen. Isakson holds strong pro-business beliefs and this seemed to please the sell-out crowd. The event took place in the Miller-Murphy-Howard Building at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.

(L to R) 2008 Georgia Chamber Chair Charles Tarbutton, Rep. Larry O'Neal (R-Warner Robins), U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Sen. Russ Tolleson (R-Perry) and Georgia Chamber President and CEO George Israel discuss politics at the 2008 Congressional Luncheon.
