Georgia Chamber Wraps Up Successful Spring Board Meeting
Gov. Sonny Perdue capped the spring board meeting of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce on Friday with a keynote address that touched on many of the biggest issues facing Georgia businesses.
Like House Speaker Glenn Richardson and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, who spoke Thursday, the governor highlighted several pro-business success stories from the 2008 legislative session and outlined challenges for 2009 in transportation, health care, energy, water and education.
Other speakers during the productive three-day meeting at the Westin Savannah included Congressman John Barrow; Savannah TV anchor and former state legislator Sonny Dixon; and noted water attorney Patricia Barmeyer, who briefed the board on the new statewide water management plan.
The board also heard presentations on the recently concluded legislative session, the 2008 membership campaign, and the progress of the Georgia Initiative from president George Israel, chairman Charles Tarbutton and 2009 chairman-elect Mike Garrett.
More than 200 Georgia business leaders attended the event.
