Democracy is Under Attack in Washington!

Georgia's reputation as a great place to do business has attracted companies for decades.  With relatively low union membership across our state's workforce, employers and employees have worked together to build and maintain a healthy business environment while Georgia's "right to work" status continues to attract new investment.

Today, a union-led attack on democracy in Congress threatens to dramatically alter the workplace -- not only here in Georgia, but across the country.

The inappropriately-named Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) would, at its core, destroy a fundamental right of our election system - the secret ballot - forcing employees to unionize and exponentially driving up the cost of doing business.

Our system of government is grounded upon our right to step into the voting booth and secretly vote our conscience free from intimidation and coercion.  If the unions get their way with EFCA, employees will be subject to intimidation, coercion or retribution for not voting to unionize their place of employment.  Up until now, any vote by employees to unionize was held by secret ballot.  Under EFCA, that procedure would be done away with.  As a result, if a union could publicly collect the signatures of more than 50 percent of employees at a business of any size, that business would automatically become a union shop, radically changing its day-to-day operations and decision making processes.

This is not a debate about unions. It is a debate about our democratic process and we cannot stand by and let that process be trampled, nor can we allow our system of free enterprise to be destroyed.

This legislation is alive in Congress and, if it passes, will be sent to the new President for signature early next year.  For more information, or to find out what you can do to get involved, please click on the following link: www.unionfacts.com
