Membership Campaign Takes Cue from Weather: Both are Hot!

If we are lucky, the high temperatures will moderate, but the Team Georgia Chamber '07 statewide membership campaign shows no sign of cooling down. And, that's good news for campaign planners who say they are right where they wanted to be going into Labor Day.

"Our dollar goal this year is $1.7 million," said Campaign Chairman Charles K. Tarbutton, of Sandersville, "and we all wanted our target number to fall below a million by Labor day and I am confident that it will. That gives us a solid ten weeks to raise the remaining dollars, with a volunteer force of 500 that is getting better every day. It won't be easy, but I am encouraged with our progress so far," Tarbutton added.

The infusion of cash and new members is coming from every part of the state, a sure sign that the word has gotten out that the Georgia Chamber is truly a statewide organization. The week's top producers reflect that geographical diversity. The top spot went to veteran campaign volunteer, Virgil Collins (AT&T), with $10,500. He was followed by Georgia Power's Frank Boyd, with $5,000. Next was Tony Sammons, with Georgia Power in Brunswick, with $3,675, followed by David Preston (Region's Bank, Atlanta) and Marshall Conner (Georgia Power in Valdosta).

This week also saw the unveiling of the official Team Georgia Chamber '07 campaign tee shirt. Designed by the membership department staff, the shirts are sponsored by Georgia Chamber Board member Rick Boyd with Chattahoochee Marketing Group in Gainesville, who was also responsible for printing the campaign's Signature Sponsors on the back of the shirts.

Several campaign contests are nearing an end. The first will determine who wins spots on the big "Las Vegas Long Weekend Getaway," on Oct. 12-14. Top producers earn the trip for two based on their sales and all winners will fly to Las Vegas and spend two nights at the world famous MGM Grand Hotel. Both air travel and hotel accommodations are provided by AirTran Airways.

More AirTran tickets are up for grabs in the Zero Hero contest, designed just for those volunteers who have yet to make their first sale. As they do, their names will be entered in a drawing for two round trip tickets to any domestic destination served by the airline. The more new members they sell, the more chances they have to win.

Finally, we are just days away from the annual Wachovia-Team Georgia Chamber "Day at the Ballpark." It's set for Wednesday, September 5th, when the Braves take on the Phillies at Turner Field. The day kicks off with a full ballpark lunch and includes tickets to watch the game. Lunch will take place in the air conditioned Hank Aaron Room, at the stadium.

Watching every new member and dollar arrive at campaign headquarters is Dr. J. David Allen, 2007 Chair of the Georgia Chamber. He expressed his delight with the strong progress so far and his optimism that the drive is headed for the record books. "Between the great job our volunteers are doing and the splendid record the state chamber has racked up over the past few years, I think we will see a leap in new members before this campaign is through," Dr. Allen noted, "and a stronger, more influential state chamber will emerge. And that is good for everybody, especially everybody who is in business in our state."
