As Total Nears $1 Million Mark, Pace of Campaign Quickens

In his report last week to the officers of the Georgia Chamber, 2007 Chair Dr. J. David Allen used a now politically incorrect advertising slogan from the past to describe the success of the Team Georgia Chamber ’07 statewide membership campaign, “We’ve come a long way, baby.”

He was referring to the fact that the campaign, which began in late June with a balance of zero, has climbed to within a few dollars of a million.  But, Dr. Allen was quick to point out, “We can feel good about it, but we can’t celebrate.  We’ve still got a long way to go.”

Of course, he is correct.  The goal of this year’s campaign is $1.75 million, so much work remains to be done.  The good news is that a lot of dedicated volunteers are fully engaged in meeting the campaign objective.  And, if the third week of the second half is any indication, they are on the right path.

Both revenue and new members took a leap in week 15, thanks to some heroics from mostly veteran volunteers.  Leading the way was Atlanta Gas Light Team Captain, Tommy Graham, with $12,500.  He was closely trailed by his teammate, Teresa Greenwood, with $10,500.  In Columbus, Synovus Team Captain Luke Mansour came to the table with $10,500, as did Pacesetter team member, David Preston.  Rounding out the top five Top Producers was Frank Boyd (Georgia Power), with $8,000.  The above four teams made it into the Top Producing teams of the week, joined by Wachovia Bank.

On Friday, October 12th, a strong contingent of campaign volunteers will head to Las Vegas for a long weekend of fun and entertainment.  Headquarters will be the MGM Grand Hotel.  Both the hotel and air transportation are being provided by AirTran Airways.

When this group returns on Monday, October 15th, energized and ready for more sales, they will join more than 450 other volunteers in rounding up the remaining dollars and new members necessary to enable the campaign to claim its 11th consecutive victory.  Everyone will gather at the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel on Wednesday, November 14th, to celebrate their success.

But, the bubbly stays packed away for now.  The first order of business for this outstanding group of Georgians is to zero in on the goal and add to the totals.  Everyone knows that 2008 will be a pivotal year for business at the Georgia Legislature and a strong, well-funded state chamber is absolutely essential.
